The Gospel of John; He dwelt among us

We finished our study of the Prologue of the Gospel of John 1:1-18 this week.

Through the first eighteen verses we have studied;

1. Eternal Christ vs. 1-3

2. Incarnate Christ vs. 4-5

3. Heralded Christ vs. 6-8

4. Unrecognized Christ  vs. 9-11

5. Omnipotent Christ vs. 12-13

This week we studied the

6. Glorious Christ vs. 14-18

God did not “turn’ into a man or cease to be God when he became flesh.

His Word tells us He dwelt among us. Dwelt; eskenosen (which means to pitch. His tent/body came to live among us.)

1. God tented with them in the Old Testament. How? The Tabernacle.

The O.T. Tabernacle, as a type, designed specifically and in detail by God, would point to the character and aspects of the ministry of Christ. A shadow of what was to come.

2. Jesus tented with us in the body of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:11, 10:20, Colossians 2:17

He represents the TRUE TABERNACLE in Heaven. The Lord wants us to be aware of His nature and character.

3. Future Heaven He will tent/dwell with us for eternity.

1 Timothy 3:16, 2 Cor. 5:1-8, Revelation 21:3 & 4

Remember in the Old Testament Moses saw a glimpse of His glory … the back of Him.

Physical qualities of His Glory; Matthew 17:2, Mark 9:2, Rev. 10:1, Rev. 1:16

Spiritual qualities of His Glory;  John walked with Him, talked, sat, followed, listened, prayed with and loved Jesus. He witnessed all of God’s Attributes in Jesus; Grace, Love, Holiness, Wisdom, Mercy etc.

By grace you are saved when you believe His truth. These two must be together.

WHO testified of CHRIST

vs. 14; Apostle John, vs. 15; John the Baptist, vs. 16 Those who believe

Vs. 17

MOSES brought the law. As Sinclair Ferguson said, the law is do this, do this, do this, do this and if you don’t, WHACK!

JESUS BROUGHT GRACE; I know you have failed, sinned, rebelled, but I love you and came to take away your sin. Grace I give you and not because you deserve it. Romans 11:6

vs. 18 JESUS DECLARED GOD to US; Hebrews 1:1-14, Exodus 33, 2 Cor. 4:1-6, HIS Glory Face to Face.

1 John 2:22, 1 John 4:12, 1 John 5:4-5, 2 John 7, 2 Cor. 5:21, Philippians 2:5-11, Romans 1:3-6, 2 Cor. 5:1-8 (our tent)

to be continued…
