We had an awesome study on “Light” in our weekly Bible study in (John 1).
God provided us with the LIGHT (Christ). It is only Christ Who is able to reveal Himself to us. His Light has to first shine on us, in us, to expose us to our sin, our darkness, and reveal our need of Him. Light exposes sin while darkness hides it.
Apart from JESUS CHRIST there is; No Word from God, No Life, and No Light or understanding and all is darkness. (John 1:1-5)
Without His Light we could not even begin to be able to see Him. We could continue to go inside and read His Word week, after week, and month, after month, and never have one person come to know Christ as their Lord. He is the Light of the world (John 8:12). He must shine His Light and expose them to their darkened hearts, their sin, and their need of a Savior. Darkness is a place each one of us once lived before He shined His Light in us.
Once we’re chosen & called out of the darkness we are given understanding of His Word by His Light. Light illuminates things so we can see them. He is the Light of the world. We did not one day just wake up and go flip on a light. Dead men cannot even crawl let alone get up in their own strength, flip on a light, and have an understanding. It is all from Him, by His power, that any of us could have understanding (John 14, 15, & 16) to know Him. His Light gives us understanding of Who He is. This Light is all for His Glory! His Light is what shines on our darkened hearts and reveals our sinful condition and our need for a Savior.
When do we come to hate darkness and love truth? Matthew 11:25-27 shows us that when hidden things are revealed to us. He does not reveal these truths to wise and religious leaders but to those whom He, the Son, wills to reveal them to (Luke 10:22). Praise Him, alone, for revealing the truths of God’s word to us. We cannot see God…know God…find God…or hear God…in our own humanity. God must be revealed to us by HIS SON. (John 1:18, John 14:9, Matthew 11:27)
When we have been chosen out of darkness and He, Himself, is made known to us we rejoice and give Him all the glory. Once we know Him, and have seen the Light, we are His Child. He is our Abba Father. We find comfort in Him. We no longer fear Him exposing our sin as we now know He cleanses us from sin. Our Lord is the one who lifts us out of darkness. His Light now leads us by day and by night in the direction we must go.
We no longer need to hide in darkness. Those who love darkness, love their sin, and still fear the exposure. This is proof they do not know Him. They are blinded by the god of this world. (2 Cor. 4:4)
