A Women’s Prison closed about a year ago. The Dept. of Corrections than moved the women into one of the three other facilities in the state.
We starting doing a weekly Life Group titled Be Transformed inside another women’s facility and it has been a growth in progress but we are seeing His fruit. We had twenty women come to our last study and we were all crammed into a small education room with chairs, tables, computers and bookshelves but this didn’t stop the SPIRIT of GOD from working and moving on the hearts of these dear women. Life’s are being changed, renewed, transformed by Jesus Christ our Lord.
They come hungry, eager to worship, and hear His truth. They have grown weary in hearing the lies from the enemy and are seeking Him. He tells us that if you seek him, He will be found by you. When you seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. They are coming to HIM, growing in wisdom and truth, and are now encouraging one another in this truth.
They too, like us, endure many trials that life throws at us and sitting in prison doesn’t change their need for Him to carry them through each of life’s trials and battles in our journey. What is the greatest comfort for anyone whether behind bars, or on the outside, is having a constant, unchanging savior who takes us and carries us through every battle. Just like us leaning on CHRIST is where we are strengthened. When we are weak He is strong. He didn’t give us a spirit of fear but one of power, and of love, and a sound mind. Having power to stand up to the enemy, love to love those who persecute you, and having a sound mind while in prison is powerful. He is the hope we have to step forward and stand in the midst of turmoil. He is the power to say no to our old way of doing things or the temptations that come against us. So many women inside the prison are far more free than women within our churches today. One of our greatest quotes was from a sister who shared with us one night was, “This is the most free I have ever been and I am in prison.” She knew it was because of her freedom in Christ. When we are stripped of all we hold onto; money, status, reputation, home, work, friends, family…where do we turn?
We, too, have learned so much from our sisters and are so encouraged by the women in prison. This is a full circle ministry as HIS blessings pour back into our life’s as much as they do for them. Simple things are such blessings as He is the one who gives us all good things. His word says Hebrews 3:13 to encourage one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. If you read this tomorrow it will still be today. If you wait six months and read this it will again be today. It is always TODAY! Encouraging one another to stand strong and keep on the straight and narrow is all some may need to not fall into their old ways of thinking. Being transformed by the renewing of our mind in the reading and studying of His word is a power that the enemy can not take from us. Keeping in the word of GOD is powerful for the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. Hebrews 4:12
Join us in prayer as we are praying for a weekend Seminar in the prison this year so be in prayer with us for this event. This would take place on a Friday night and all day Saturday. We also are looking for others to help serve in the weekly Life Groups on Wednesday nights, and we still are on their calendar for our 5th Sunday Worship services where we praise, teach, and reach the women with the truth and love of Christ. He is mighty to save! To God be all the Glory.
MIGHTY TO SAVE!
