The Pharisees knew scripture inside and out. The Pharisees knew the rules of the law and what GOD said. The Pharisees were righteous unto themselves. The Pharisees judged. The Pharisees walked among the elite. The Pharisees were wise as man saw them.
However, what did JESUS say to the Pharisees? What was in the heart of these men? Was knowledge more important to them than love for men? Was a righteous, flawless, knowledgeable religion more important to them than serving man, giving to the needy, ministering to the lost? Didn’t Jesus have harsh words for the Pharisees?
Yet, JESUS, the LORD showed mercy and grace to the sinner who knew little, wasn’t righteous, wasn’t elite, was living in sin, and ones who developed a heart for truth.
God says “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice. ‘For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
I think of this today when I hear of many who are highly knowledgeable in scripture and what it says, what it means, but their hearts for Him, His children, a heart for people are dead. They want all the knowledge and understanding but lack the heart of LOVE for man.
What does GOD say about a lack of LOVE for men? GOD said “And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” I Cor. 13:2
We must be careful that we do not just store up knowledge and understanding for the mere source of having knowledge and understanding and in turn lack the heart and love that GOD wants us to have for people.
Someone said, Head knowledge is often from a carnal mind and will err. (use scripture amiss) Heart knowledge will follow towards the desires of one’s heart. (word or God) Knowledge from the Spirit of Wisdom and revelation will always glorify Jesus Christ. It is the knowledge to follow.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 40:8 I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
He plants HIS DESIRES in us and we in turn follow HIS WILL, and HIS PASSIONS, for our life not our own knowledge and understanding.
HE is also the one who gives us the knowledge and understanding of HIS word too, not man.
Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD
