There are so many things that cause distractions in this world and offer us a false sense of hope or joy but none of them last, not one.
Some people look to riches or the material things in life to give them a fleshly fix or sense of security. We know GOD says that moth and rust will destroy these temporal items as time will also strip away the their satisfaction. There will always be something or someone bigger, brighter, newer, faster, greater etc. The Jone’s next door will always be there and there is NOTHING in this world that will last forever.
We find people who look to personal strengths like muscles, beauty, and brains. These don’t last either and time will age the physical and it does not take one to eternity. GOD says in His word, “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” (1 Tim. 4:8) God wrote this truth in the bible because God knows brains , beauty, and earthly bodies do not carry one in real life hardships. Hardships of when a tornado destroys your home, you have a terminal illness, your spouse dies, or you lose your children. More importantly these, earthly gods, do nothting to provide one with righteousness or salvation. No amount of money will bring their lost ones back. There is also not any source of permanant comfort in the lifting of 325 lbs. or parading in front of a mirror when you are suffering in trials.
Some seek worldly wisdom and prestigious degrees, bigger brains, rather than seeking GOD first. Their PHD or high IQ’s won’t be able to perform a miracle or bring any strength to their mind, heart, or soul in true trials.
Why should we believe God tells us to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind – Luke 10:27? Becuase GOD knows it is only His strength, not in riches, in wisdom, or in physical strength that trials are able to be endured. His Grace is, and always will be, sufficient.
Some try to numb their pains with drugs or alcohol in an attempt to forget the burdens in life but, honestly, it never gets better and almost always ends up digging a deeper pit than the one they first started out in.
High status, recognition, or simple approval from man is also a form of addiction? The sad thing about this is most people today don’t see it as an issue and view ones with worldly success as o.k. Most never attempt to seek help or help those who are in need of rescue from this sort of bondage. Approval is a fix or a high that some seek just as is drugs and alchohol. Anything sought after with our heart, instead of what God has told us to seek after, is an idol. We are to have no other gods – it does not say don’t have some other gods but it says “NO OTHER GODS!” There is to be only ONE GOD in our life.
What could we possibly seek after that would be any more fulfilling, provide us with salvation and eternal life, than CHRIST and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS?
There is nothing that will fill us with complete joy, peace, understanding, or will bring us salvation. All things, except Christ, eventually provide people with emptiness, longing, hunger, and voids. People always seem to try to fill up with things of this world but in the end it never works.
Breaking Free from this type of thought life and addiction is only possible through CHRIST. It is done through His Holy Spirit. It is in the hearing, listening, and doing the will of GOD in FAITH. Only from faith will the word begin to take root and be astablished in the solid rock. We are all sinners and we are all unable to do it on our own. We will continually fail at any human, flesh filled, attempts to fill the empty spot that GOD alone was meant to fill.
Read Luke 8: 5-15 and see how 3/4 of the people who hear the word don’t let it take root and end up trampled, eaten, dry, or choked by the concerns of the world. Only those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop have the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of God. Persevere people, don’t fail in standing firm on the rock, as when we are weak – HE IS STRONG!
Lord may you be our strength, our knowledge, our understanding, and the desires of our hearts, souls, and minds. May we lean not on our own understanding. May we trust FULLY in YOU for everything. May we not look to man or this world for any of our provisions but to you – YOU ALONE LORD!
Lead us not into temptation Lord, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom that is, and was, and is to come. Keep us close to you LORD!
